Private Piano Policies

Lesson Format (in-person & online)
The instructional year consists of 34 private lessons and 4 group classes offered from September to June. Private lessons are offered for 30, 45, or 60 minutes.  During the summer months (late June through August) private lessons are still available, as well as occasional learning opportunities such as classes in lead sheet reading and music theory.

Attendance Policy
Any lessons we cancel will be made up at a mutually agreed upon time. Lessons missed by the student will not be made up except for illness or extenuating circumstances (including a death in the family or an extended family vacation with sufficient prior notice; they would not include sports practice, school concerts, traffic, and the like.) There will be no refunds given for missed lessons.

The number of makeup lessons is limited to the makeup weeks offered during the instructional year. These are indicated in the yearly calendar.
Lesson Commitment
Students are expected to commit to the full year of piano study (September to June). If you need to discontinue lessons for any reason, a 30-day written notice of intent to withdraw must be given. The student will be billed for four weeks from the date of the notice of withdrawal. The teacher reserves the right to terminate lessons for any reason, including irregular attendance, disruptive behavior, lack of practice or delinquency in paying tuition.

Parental Involvement
Successful musicianship is the outcome of a partnership between the parent and the child. Parents must insure that the teacher’s instructions are being carried out at home and provide the structure of a consistent practice schedule. Parents are encouraged, but not required to sit in on lessons.
